Recruitment

To become a pediatric cardiovascular surgeon, physicians must first undergo training in cardiovascular surgery for adult patients. Physicians interested in this career path can become thoroughly trained cardiovascular surgeons by enrolling in the NCVC's residency program after completing their initial clinical training. Recently, several physicians have specialized in pediatric cardiovascular surgery starting from their third year of residency. In such cases, a total training period of 5 years can be ensured if the physicians apply for specialist training immediately following the completion of their residency training. It is also possible to apply for specialist training at the department after spending 1-2 years at another facility perfecting the basic techniques. The department welcomes prospective trainee physicians for an on-site visit, which can be for 1 day or longer, as in the case of overseas visitors. The department's specialist training program aims at developing trainees into practitioners fully capable of performing surgical procedures for diseases such as ventricular septal defect and tetralogy of Fallot as well as performing the Fontan procedure by the end of their two-year training.
