Department of Pediatric Cardiology
Overview
Outline of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology
At the Department of Pediatric Cardiology, we take charge of a broad range of cases, conducting the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart diseases, caring for patients born with structural defects in the heart, while also diagnosing and providing care for patients with arrhythmia (often detected during medical checkups at school), myocardial diseases, pulmonary hypertension, coronary artery sequelae of Kawasaki disease, and chronic heart failure, among others.
Our patients represent various age groups, from unborn and new-born babies to infants, school-age children, and adults. Many of the patients are referred to our department from key hospitals across Japan because of severe congenital heart diseases, with some patients requiring heart transplantation. Bracing ourselves under the slogan "Resolve to be the last bastion of pediatric cardiology,"we receive patients with cardiac illnesses of all kinds with varying degrees of severity and treat them with compassion.
Our Outpatient Pediatric Cardiology Clinic is open from Monday through Friday (new patients are received on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment only). The department's specialized outpatient clinics are dedicated to catheterization; the Fontan procedure; and treatment of pulmonary circulation diseases, arrhythmia, adult congenital heart diseases, Kawasaki disease, and myocardial disease, among others. Physicians specializing in these procedures and diseases conduct consultations that meet each patient's needs. Patients hospitalized for treatment or examination are received into the infant PICU ward (4th floor), the pediatric ward (5th floor), or the adult ward (6th and other floors), according to their age.Donald McDonald House Osaka-Suita
Donald MacDonald House Osaka-Suita is a residential facility for children below the age of 20 years and their families who arrive at the NCVC from remote areas for outpatient treatment or hospitalization. Situated in front of the hospital (at a 3-min walking distance) and with 18 rooms, this facility is used by many young patients and their families as their "home away from home."Its quiet and relaxing environment is highly appreciated.
