Department of Pharmacy

More details

Roles of the department

The Department of Pharmacy ensures the quality of drugs dispensed through traditional pharmacy services. These services extend from the purchasing and storing of drugs to preparing and dispensing drugs to patients. In addition, the department collects and evaluates information on the efficacy and safety of drugs, and provides this information to hospital personnel to ensure that the appropriate drug therapy is provided to both inpatients and outpatients.
The pharmacists at the department provide services to patients in various ways: in the hospital wards, pharmacists provide instruction on the use of drugs based on pharmaceutical management; they provide written drug information to outpatients; they analyze data obtained through the measurement of the blood concentration of drugs. They also actively promote the proper use of drugs and support appropriate drug therapies.
For outpatient care, the Department of Pharmacy promotes issuing of external prescriptions to appropriately separate dispensing and prescribing functions.
Pharmacists at the department conduct research in the field of clinical pharmacy and provide education and training as staff of the pharmacy department of national medical center. They are committed to training pharmacists from the Japan Pharmacists Education Center and other facilities as well as education and practical training of students of various departments of pharmaceutical sciences at universities.
