This facility actively accepts physicians in specialist training and senior residents to train them to be the professionals who will take initiative in clinical practice and research related to diabetes and dyslipidemia. In our curriculum, trainees can receive clinical training regarding coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, or hypertension by request in addition to training regarding diabetes and dyslipidemia. Thus, trainees can receive comprehensive training about arteriosclerotic diseases and their risk factors. Moreover, instructors make efforts to let trainees experience cutting-edge medicine through participating in clinical research and clinical trials, presenting at academic conferences, and publishing in medical journals.

Practice

Each resident is paired up with a staff physician for patient care. Residents can choose to receive training only in the Division of Diabetes and Lipid Metabolism or they can also receive training in the Division of Hypertension and Nephrology, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, or Division of Cerebrovascular Medicine and Neurology by request. Residents will be on call once a month and physicians in specialist training will be on call once or twice a month.

Research

At this facility, basic research is conducted to investigate findings from clinical research more extensively. Clinical research is conducted to clarify what the results of basic research mean in the actual clinical setting. Through research, we deepen our understanding of the onset and progression of diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and dyslipidemia and their clinical outcomes, namely, arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and renal dysfunction.

Testimonial from a senior resident

I joined this hospital as a resident immediately after my junior residency. Because I did not have much basic knowledge, I am learning about diabetes while working with other physicians.
I selected this hospital for senior residency because I wanted to thoroughly and carefully learn about diabetes. I was also interested in presenting at academic conferences and doing clinical research, which are essential for specializing in diabetes. Because each resident is paired up with an attending physician and treats patients while listening to his or her advice, it is easy for residents to ask questions. This environment was also attractive to me.
I have been working here for 6 months. My attending physicians are kind and give me detailed instruction. I am accumulating many experiences in clinical practice and presenting at academic conferences. I think the greatest advantage of this residency program is that the residents here can be involved in both clinical practice and research. They can receive detailed instruction in both.
If you are interested, let's work together at our division.
