For physicians interested in training at the Department of Hypertension and Nephrology

We consider the NCVC as a truly appealing place because it sincerely aims at being the best center for cerebral cardiovascular care and research globally. All the NCVC departments are also determined to achieve the highest level of medical care and research in their domains of specialization. Yet, the boundaries between the departments are blurred, facilitating multidisciplinary consultations, interdepartmental collaboration, and joint research, which are actively pursued here at the NCVC.

For physicians, training and working at the Department of Hypertension and Nephrology means that their experience, far from being merely limited to the clinical treatment of patients with hypertension or kidney diseases, covers the whole spectrum of medicine related to cardiorenal syndrome (CRS). The disorders represented by the term CRS have been a focus of growing attention since the first half of the 2000s; however, efforts for elucidating and combating these disorders are still under development, with an overwhelming shortage of human resources engaged in the challenges.。

The Department of Hypertension and Nephrology is currently conducting various joint research projects for the elucidation of CRS with other departments of specialization, the Clinical Research Division, and the Research Institute at the NCVC, as well as other medical institutions and research centers at various locations within Japan. As clinical physicians, our most important goal is to do our best in diagnosing and treating our patients. Yet, limiting ourselves to clinical practice alone does not necessarily improve our clinical skills, whereas research provides various facets to their improvement. Many physicians in residency or specialty training at our department have participated in its research activities, accomplishing numerous achievements and subsequently assuming leadership roles at various medical and research centers across Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa. The diagram below summarizes the major research projects in which our department has been participating and playing a central role since the fiscal year 2017. Physicians working at our department can participate in these research projects, present their findings at scientific meetings, and work toward postgraduate degrees at partner academic institutions.

Recruitment

In Japan, the estimated numbers of people suffering from hypertension and CKD are 43 million and 13 million, respectively. With the rapidly increasing age of the country's population, these figures are expected to grow even further in the future. Hypertension, a common disease, is the greatest risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Thus, its accurate diagnosis and adequate treatment are indispensable, just as dialysis and extracorporeal circulation therapies are vital during further deterioration toward end-stage renal failure.
The Department of Hypertension and Nephrology at the NCVC represents Japan in its areas of specialization with its excellent track record in the treatment of and research on hypertension, kidney diseases, and hemodialysis. The personnel at the department are eager to meet new physicians who are enthusiastic about these topics and are willing to work hard together.
