生理学に制御工学を導入した医工融合によって、生体をシステム同定・予測するシステム生理学研究、さらに生体を閉ループ制御(=治療)するインテリジェント自動医療の開発研究が専門です。 自律神経系は、生体情報に応じて全身臓器を個別に調節して適切に連関させ、生体恒常性(循環・呼吸・代謝・体温調節等)を維持する一方、その神経異常は循環器疾患・生活習慣病・ストレス関連疾患などの多様な難治性疾患と深く関わっています。そこで脳・自律神経系の生理的機能や仕組みを解明すると共に、病態においては、脳自律神経回路に先端工学的に介入して、治療に合理的なように神経機能を操作したり再建再構築し、疾患の克服に繋げるような未来医療を創るのが目標です。この手段として、最近では、自律神経系の細胞動態を生きた個体内で光観察する研究や光操作する研究も進めています。
